At the Porter County Public Library System, we have made it our mission to provide all residents of the library district with a comprehensive collection of relevant materials in a variety of media that records human knowledge, ideas, and culture and to organize these materials for ready access. Our driving belief is that libraries have the power to change people’s lives and are a cornerstone of the communities they are part of. Through the Porter County Public Library System’s programs, services, and events, we encourage every patron to discover the joy of learning and the love of reading.In order to fulfill our mission, we strive to provide patrons with relevant materials, adequate library facilities, excellent public services, competent, creative, and well-educated staff, and secure reliable library funding.
- Patrons who wish to address the Board must record the following information on the “Public Participation” form provided at the Administrative Office, which is open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
- Name and address of patron with identification.
- Group affiliation, if and when appropriate
- Agenda item to be addressed.
- Individuals or groups wishing to place an item on the agenda shall register their intent with the director no later than noon two (2) business days prior to the meeting (e.g., agenda items for a Wednesday meeting must be submitted by noon on the Monday prior to the Board meeting).
- Public participation shall be permitted under the agenda item entitled “Public Participation” and must be restricted to items appearing on the agenda of the Board meeting.
- Those persons who wish to address the Board during an agenda item must sign in with the recording secretary and list the agenda item which the visitor wishes to discuss.
- Each participant shall be limited to five (5) minutes.
- No person may present orally or discuss at any meeting of the Library Board any charges or complaints against employees of the Library System without first presenting such charges or complaints to the Library Board through the director, in writing, signed, and verified by the person or group making such a charge or complaint.
- The president of the Library Board may terminate any person’s privilege of address for persistent violations of the rules or conduct by a participant and declare that person out of order for violations of the rules.
- The portion of the meeting during which the participation of the public is invited shall be limited to thirty (30) minutes.
