Technical Services Team Lead, $17.50/hr

TITLE: Technical Services Team Lead

DEPARTMENT: Technical Services

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Greet patrons as they arrive and depart from the library. 
  • Answer informational and directional questions in person and on the phone in a professional manner.
  • Assist patrons in locating materials or information both inside and outside the library.
  • Be proficient in the use of the integrated library system in order to handle all patron/library needs: check out/in; holds, searching, account maintenance, registration, etc. 
  • Processing of all materials in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Quality control of materials and item database.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in maintaining discipline and good order in the library.
  • Available to work a schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Basic custodial maintenance of the branch.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned. 

TECHNICAL SERVICES TEAM LEAD SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Detailed database maintenance of the integrated library system.
  • Supervise all bindery and repair of materials.
  • Utilize the integrated library system to execute necessary programs that ensure the proper function of circulation, cataloging, and OPAC systems.
  • Lead all members of the technical services team in the collection, cataloging, processing, disbursement, and sharing of physical and electronic materials.
  • Respond to tickets and provide friendly, timely, and effective support to all staff.
  • Administration and coordination of integrated library system connected services.
  • Liaise and negotiate with library vendors as assigned by the director.
  • Advanced collection development and acquisitions of physical and electronic materials.
  • Coordination of patron materials request services.
  • Coordination of interlibrary loan and any other sharing services.
  • Detailed knowledge and supervision of receiving and invoicing functions.

CATALOGING-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

This position may include cataloging specific responsibilities:

  • Copy cataloging of all material formats.
  • Original cataloging of all material formats.
  • Knowledge of authority control.
  • Knowledge of and ability to train staff on current DDC, LC, RDA, and MARC standards.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist patrons with basic library equipment requests such as copiers, printers, faxes, computer reservations, etc.
  • Assist in maintaining discipline and good order in the library.
  • Collection maintenance such as shelving, shifting, and shelf reading.
  • Available to work a schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
  • May occasionally need to travel to and work at branch locations.
  • Basic custodial maintenance of facilities.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Indiana LC 5 certification, or ability to obtain a temporary permit, is required; ALA Accredited Master of Library Science degree preferred.
  • Library, management, and/or customer service experience preferred. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with DDC, RDA, LC and MARC standards is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to learn computer skills, applications and devices relevant to position.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Database Administration – Maintain the integrity of the Integrated Library System; prepare and dispatch all materials to library patrons in an accurate and expedient manner; provide exceptional customer service to all staff members of Porter County Public Library System; responsive to the discovery needs of library patrons and staff members; adherent to all library metadata standards; stays current on library classification and metadata trends.

PHYSICAL TASKS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Lifting and/or moving of  up to 20 lbs and the ability to push or pull at least 100 lbs on wheels.
  • Extensive bending, stooping, pulling, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.. 
  • Stand on a stool to shelve books overhead.

  • Operate technology equipment .
  • Manual dexterity: Able to use hands and fingers to handle books, paper, and technology.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Library Assistants must be proficient in all Library Clerk 1 related duties and responsibilities. Library Assistants must also be able to do 1 of the following for Library Assistant 5 and all of the following for Library Assistant 4. To qualify for the areas below the team member must have advanced knowledge in the specialty area and complete the full assignment on a regular basis.

TITLE: Library Support Specialist-Facilities

DEPARTMENT: Systems

REPORTS TO: Associate Director

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Library Support Specialist position is a hospitality and customer service oriented member of the management team. This position requires attention to detail and advanced critical thinking skills. The Library Support Specialist involves a combination of time spent in public services areas and branch operations. The Library Support Specialist is also expected to provide excellent customer service and assistance to all staff members, vendors, and community organizations both in person and on the phone, in accordance with library policies and performance standards.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Be responsive to Administration, staff and Board requests.
Basic custodial maintenance of all facilities.

SUPPORT SPECIALIST-FACILITIES SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specialist 5:

Act as System Courier delivering materials and supplies to all five branches.
Provide minor repairs and support to facilities and staff as assigned by administration.
Provide assistance to Specialist 2 including painting, lawn care, snow removal, custodial duties, etc.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with the physical security of library and its equipment.
Ensure library materials, service floor, and physical work areas meet and exceed presentation standards.
Maintain discipline and order in the library
Participate in professional meetings and workshops as assigned.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Facilities maintenance or construction trade experience required.
Ability to work with people of all ages.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
